We Make a Living By What We Get But a Life By What We Give!

In Iganga, Uganda, a group of women sit in a literacy class, learning something many of them were never given the chance to learn as girls.

Their teacher leads them through it one lesson at a time, and alongside reading they're learning to make their own hair shampoo and bleach, a skill that can turn into income.

For these women, that income means school fees for their children, a stronger contribution to the household, and food on the table. What we're proudest of is harder to see, because with every skill they gain these women grow in confidence, and a woman who believes in herself is far harder to take advantage of or abuse.

That's what happens in this one classroom, and at Families Mentoring Families we also keep girls in school, run literacy programmes for women who missed out on formal education, offer vocational training, and teach women about their rights and opportunities. None of it happens without you.
